While you are reading this I am somewhere between Kolkata, India and Kigali, Rwanda – if everything is on schedule. We, at Hayden Lake Friends Church, have been privileged to “invest” in global outreach to several cultures over the past few years.

Our Mission Committee, along with Evangelical Friends Mission (EFM), has encouraged me, Maurice, to schedule a trip to India and Africa in a few weeks. The first stop will be Kolkata to visit D.K. and Choity Sarkar. A specific agenda is to see the Emmanuel Hostel and the progress that is being made after one year of its operation. A couple of modifications are being discussed that could affect the structure and use of the facility. One is DK’s desire to have a school room on site, with the plan to have a teacher and curriculum that is more along the line of English-based Western education.

A few weeks ago Peggy and I spent some time with family for the primary purpose of attending our grandson’s high school graduation. It just happened that Justin was the starting pitcher for their baseball team and they qualified to play in the Regional Tournament so we went a few days early to watch some games. They did well – but more on that later.

These have been weeks of reminiscing for Peggy and me, as we anticipate our 50th wedding anniversary this month. One of us has spent hours sorting through a few decades of 35mm slides while the other sorts through photo prints. It has been quite a journey and, frankly, it has made us tired. Not tired as in fatigued, but just realizing how much of our lives have been spent going and going – vacations, family trips, business trips, church trips, etc, etc. I guess we have always been on the move.

You’ve probably been in the ditch before. There you sit conspicuously waiting for someone to stop by and offer assistance, or waiting for a tow truck after calling AAA. They assure you they can be there soon. You sit and wait and everybody going by says, “Poor sucker. Why wasn’t he paying attention”?
