We would like to promote discussion as much as possible.  We would encourage you all to join the discussion below.  Initially Vick Woods responded to the transition blog with several excellent suggestions and questions.  I have broken those into separate discussion threads. Check them out below under General discussions.

Anyone can view the discussion below but you must register to join the discussion.  This is also a moderated discussion.  Which therefore means all posts will have to be approved before they will be made public.  This is just to make sure we somehow don't get a bunch of automated spam posts.

I agree that we need to define who we are in light of who we claim to be, Hayden Lake Evangelical Friends Church. If it is decided that we are not truly a Friends church then it won't matter whether or not we have a Friends pastor. If we decide that Hayden Lake Friends is in fact not really a Friends church and it is not important to the congregation, then we need to have the integrity to take the steps to end our affiliation with Northwest Yearly Meeting. That introduces another significant issue.

So far, no has said they think we are not a Friends church.  The Fact that we are trying to involve as many as possible in the important decision is evidence that we believe, as George Fox (and the writers of the New Testament) did, that every Christian has within in them, the mind of Christ.  We understand that the congregation has an important part of the voice of God towards us.

Our point in discussing who we are was to discern what it is God has given us to do.  We believe that God has a vision and goal for us as HLFC.  We need to make sure we understand who we are to be. The hope is that that will help us not be swayed from that course by a pastor who God is calling in a different direction.  Where is God calling us in relation to outreach to the community and the world?  How important is prayer and the scriptures?  How important is what happens on Sunday morning?  How important are small groups within the body.  Those are the type of issues we have before us.
